New kitchen layout delivers option for kitchen island installation and a modernised look

It’s VE Day, streets across Great Britain should have been abuzz with celebrations,  but 2020 had to be a quieter affair.  But days like these still managed to bring people together – especially neighbours; casually chatting from their front gardens.

And what better than conversations all house refurbishments – kitchen replacements being one.  The Kings were in this exact position.  They’d decided to have some building and alteration work done to their new home so they could enjoy a new kitchen layout. What they were missing was a recommendation for a local kitchen design company.

Sparking a conversation with their neighbours ‘The Searles’ the chatter turned to kitchens and the Searles spoke about their new kitchen and who designed and fitted it (it was us!).  The Kings enquired some more and decided to contact Thatcham Kitchens from this referral.

Attending a number of our live cooking open days cemented the deal and we started work on the project in 2021.

What Thatcham Kitchens did for the Kings

The new kitchen space allowed for a kitchen island at one end.

Having a good idea of what they wanted their kitchen to look like and the kitchen gadgets they wanted to install, Caroline and Kevin from Thatcham Kitchens helped the Kings pick from the variety of British-made shaker kitchens on offer from their kitchen supplier, UK based Mereway Kitchens.

The light sage shaker kitchen units were complemented by a Corian worktop in Nimbus Prima.  At the sides of the induction hob, the couple opted for integrated hot bars to allow pans to sit directly on the surface of the tops without spoiling.

The flush fitting Corian sink also had a flush-fitting cover so when the sink was not in use it could be covered over.

Pop-up electrical sockets and USB plugs as well as a dual plinth heater were also fitted, the latter of which allows the flow of cool and warm air.

Inside the units, pull-out drawers and cutlery boxes were upgraded to the Legra range which comes in dark grey and can be customised to suit your needs. A kitchen block was also installed and conveniently hidden away in one of the drawers.

The cool tones were completed with the use of Amtico luxury flooring in white ash.  This was fitted to also run out into the hall. By the front door we fitted a coir mat.

A venting hob induction hob from Bosch’s Serie 8 collection was selected along with optional griddle and Teppanyaki pan.
